Tooth Decay:

Misaligned teeth are more prone to tooth decay. Overlapping of teeth closes the spaces between teeth, making it difficult to keep them clean. As plaque and bacteria build up in hard to clean areas, tooth decay can occur.

Gum Disease:

Since misaligned teeth are difficult to clean, they are at much higher risk for gum disease. As with tooth decay, bacteria cause gum disease. When disease-causing bacteria begin to proliferate at and below the gum line, it creates an ideal environment for periodontal disease that eventually causes tooth loss.
